Howler monkeys...
Olga's Restaurant and Bar is maybe 250 meters down
the beach from John's resort. It gets lively in the evenings, laid-back in the afternoons.
And the fish menu at Olga's is out of this world! We ate here often. Local people and
tourists cool off here during the day, and get loose at night. We met three fellows from
Munich, Germany here one evening. That night we drove to the black beach where the giant
turtles lay their eggs at night. I tell you, they're are huge! (Smaller than a Volkswagen,
though, but maybe almost as heavy -- I don't know).
Later on that night we went to a dance nearby. What an experience! We drove to a place. It was crowded, even though it seemed in the middle of nowhere. We found a seat at one of the rough tables in the yard and watched the dancers under the open thatched roofed arena twist and sway to the hot Latin music! Suddenly, everyone - everyone lined up on the dance floor, in formation. A new song began to pump from the loud speakers. I was absolutely captivated by this. I wanted to get the CD, but I didn't know what to ask for. It wasn't until over a year later that I recognized this hot music as the Macarena, as it swept el norte, back home.
