The University has 7 campuses, 19 departments, 16 research institutes in which 24 are authorized to confer mastership and 2 are authorized to confer doctorate. The university library has a collection of 2.05 million volumes, including a special foreign language section with volumes in Japanese, French, English, German and Russian.
The university has an enrollment of about 9000 graduates, undergraduates and foreign students, with a faculty numbering about 1200. Since 1982, the university has enrolled foreign students. In the heart of the campus is a Foreign Guest House especially designed for foreign students. Attached to the Guest House are classrooms, a dining hall and laundry facilities. All the rooms are air conditioned with private baths. Long distance phone calling and other services are available.
CURRICULUM:
The program consists of 4 weeks of intensive study of Chinese (Mandarin)
at the University. It provides an unusual opportunity for those who wish to get serious about
learning Mandarin Chinese and to learn first-hand about the Chinese people and their culture.
With a view to developing cultural exchange and friendly relations with people of other countries
as well as helping foreign friends to master the essentials of Chinese.
There are courses at the elementary level. Courses are available in Chinese culture and civilization, history and literature as well as Mandarin Chinese. Instruction is by faculty of the University. Students are in class 20 hours a week. Up to 12 credits may be earned: 2 in liberal education and 10 in Mandarin Chinese(study option). Assignment to specific courses is determined by a placement examination upon arrival.
ROOM AND BOARD: Participants will live in the international dormitories.
EXCURSIONS: Three excursions to Hangzhou, West Lake, and Shaoxing for four days are included in the program at no additional cost. These excursions are scheduled on the weekends. In addition, Shanghai City tours and activities are also scheduled.
PRE-DEPARTURE ORIENTATION: Participants are required to attend pre-departure Orientations held to provide program and cultural information. Participants will be contacted when these are arranged.
GROUP FLIGHT: Price includes group airfare and visa fee.
PROGRAM COST: This includes registrations, tuition and fees, room and 3 meals per day while at Shanghai University, airfare, and excursions. NOT INCLUDED: Passport, books, health insurance (required), personal expenses, laundry, optional excursions and local transportation to and from school where necessary.
MOST FINANCIAL AID (loans, grants, scholarships) CAN BE APPLIED.

June 23 -- Flight from S.L.C. Utah USA to Shanghai China -- Bus to University.
